What is a juice cleanse?

A juice cleanse can give the body a rest from the complex task of digesting solid and processed foods.

It helps by assisting the body in removing toxins, through drinking juices made from vegetables, herbs & fruit – water & tea. Juicing is different to blending – it isolates the liquid from the pulp and fibrous portion. Therefore, you have a more concentrated amount of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals but less fibre compared to a smoothie.

Things to Consider

Before You Start

Take a moment to think about why you want to cleanse. What would you like to achieve? In the 24 – 48 hour period before commencing your cleanse avoid processed foods and red meat or any food you know your body has difficulty digesting, reduce your portion sizes and drink plenty of water.

During your juice cleanse

Begin every day with lemon water to stimulate your liver’s natural cleansing process. Consume one juice every 2-3 hours. Dry body brushing will help you to get rid of dead skin cells & open your pores for further elimination. Exercise to the point of breaking a sweat, as this will assist in the elimination of heavy metals and toxins.

After your juice cleanse

  • Ease into re-introducing solid foods
  • Start with small portions of high-quality foods
  • Applaud yourself
  • You probably have taken in 4 or 5 kgs of fruit & veg
  • Think about where you want to go from here. Consider swapping a meal with a smoothie or a veggie juice.
  • Now you have the opportunity to identify certain food insensitivities. If you suspect that you were intolerant of a certain food, gradually add it back into your diet and pay attention to how it affects you now
